PAT Testing Course in Swansea – 13 August 2027
PAT Testing Course in Swansea
A practical day of hands-on training for anyone who needs to inspect and test electrical equipment. Work with real appliances and professional testers under guided instruction.
About This PAT Testing Course in Swansea
GetTesting’s GT101 PAT Testing Course is a practical, trainer-led day for people who need to inspect and test electrical equipment at work or want to offer PAT testing as a service. The course explains both how to carry out the tests and how to make sensible decisions from the results.
You will work with real appliances and professional PAT testers throughout the day. The trainer moves around the room while delegates practise, providing guidance, correcting technique and answering questions as they arise.
Who Is This Course Suitable For?
The course is suitable for facilities and maintenance teams, caretakers and site staff, schools, colleges and charities, care and healthcare organisations, landlords and property managers, hospitality and retail businesses, electricians and other trades, businesses bringing PAT testing in-house, and people who want to offer PAT testing as a service.
Businesses may book several delegates together, subject to the places available on this course date.
No Previous Electrical Experience Required
No previous electrical qualifications or PAT testing experience are required. GT101 is designed so that a complete beginner can follow the principles, understand the tests and build confidence through practical work.
Delegates must be at least 18, have a suitable level of written and spoken English, and be comfortable carrying out straightforward calculations. Qualified electricians also benefit from the PAT-specific legal, practical and management content. Those familiar with initial verification or inspection and testing qualifications such as 2391 will recognise similarities in several of the electrical tests.
What Will You Learn?
The day covers the knowledge and practical skills needed to approach in-service inspection and testing methodically:
- Legal duties and responsibilities relating to electrical equipment
- Risk assessment and deciding suitable inspection and testing frequencies
- User checks and formal visual inspection
- Electrical basics and appliance construction
- Class I, Class II and Class III/SELV equipment
- IEC leads and extension leads
- Earth continuity and earth-bond testing
- Insulation-resistance testing
- Functional checks
- Understanding readings rather than relying on a simple pass or fail
- Recording results, labelling equipment and dealing with failures
Protective-conductor or touch-current testing, together with leakage and run testing, are introduced as useful optional tests but are not covered in the same depth as the core tests.
The course does not cover repairing electrical equipment, fixed-installation inspection and testing, specialist medical equipment or the testing of fixed-wired appliances.
Your Course Timetable
Timings are a guide and may move slightly to suit the group and the questions raised during the day.
Hands-On Training with Professional PAT Testers
All testing equipment required for the training is provided. Our range consists mainly of Kewtech and Seaward instruments, including mains-powered and battery-powered testers capable of high- and low-current earth-bond tests, together with leakage and run tests.
Course sizes are kept small so everyone has meaningful time with the equipment. Most courses have a maximum of eight delegates; the exact capacity varies by venue and will not exceed ten.
Learn to Interpret Test Readings—not Just Pass or Fail
We train with PAT testers that display an actual test reading, rather than simple pass/fail instruments. This helps delegates understand what the instrument has measured, recognise questionable results and make better-informed decisions about the equipment in front of them.
For work after the course, you will need access to a suitable PAT tester for the tasks you undertake and should ensure that it is regularly calibrated.
Legal Responsibilities, Management and Risk Assessment
PAT testing is not simply a process of attaching a label. The course explains the responsibilities surrounding electrical equipment, how inspection and testing fit into an effective maintenance system, and why testing intervals should be based on risk rather than an automatic annual date.
A training certificate is useful evidence of learning, but competence for a particular task also depends on practical ability, knowledge, experience, the scope of the work and having suitable equipment.
The GT101 Exam and Certificate
At the end of the day, delegates take a 20-question, open-book multiple-choice exam. The exam lasts 20 minutes and the pass mark is 16 out of 20, or 80%. It is designed to confirm that the key knowledge has been absorbed—not to catch people out.
Successful delegates receive a GT101 Certificate of Completion by email. Certificates can be independently verified through GetTesting Verify™.
If someone narrowly misses the pass mark, we can arrange an online retest using Zoom and Google Forms. The course timetable does not allow time for retraining and a second attempt during the same day.
